The Power of Keeping Scripture Top of Mind

Tracing Grace to its Roots

This mornings verse for Grace was Psalms 103:8.

The LORD is merciful & gracious, slow to anger, and plentiful in mercy.

It’s a beautiful verse on its own, but it prompted me to read the entire Psalm. Why? Because I already have Psalms 103:1 memorized.

Bless the LORD oh my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name.

That is the beauty of hiding God’s Word in your heart. One familiar verse acts like a golden thread, leading you into the rest of Scripture and reminding you of the fullness of His character right when you need it most.

Fighting Upstream? Recite the Word

Here is my free opinion on keeping Bible verses top of mind: When life gets hard, and you find yourself fighting upstream, it is an immense help to have the good Word ready to start reciting to yourself.

When the current is pulling against you, you don’t always have the time or the energy to flip through pages looking for a lifeline. You need that lifeline already tied to your wrist.

In my experience, that Word doesn’t even need to match your exact situation. You don’t need a verse about finances to handle a money problem, or a verse about illness to handle a health scare. You just need a verse that reminds you of who God is. When your mind is fixed on His magnitude, the upstream battle doesn’t feel quite so fierce.

My Top-Tier Lifeline

When the waters get choppy, Psalms 23:1 is my ultimate top tier verse to remind myself of the truth:

“The LORD my Shepard, I shall not want.”

I like to personalize it to really let it sink in. He is my Shepherd; He is mine – He takes care of me. Because He is leading the way, I have absolutely everything I need, exactly when I need it!

Help is on the way – God will fight for you!

BBN (Bible Broadcasting Network) features a verse to memorize every week.
