The Dew of Hermon: Dwell with Delight Week 6
Have you ever walked outside early in the morning and noticed how the dew quietly settles over everything? It doesn’t arrive with a loud thunderclap or a destructive storm. It appears softly in the quiet hours, breathing fresh life into dry ground before the heat of the day takes over.
When David describes the beauty of unity in Psalm 133, he gives us two vivid pictures. The first is the holy anointing oil flowing down. The second is just as gentle:
Mount Hermon was known for its massive height and heavy, life-giving dew that kept the surrounding countryside green and flourishing, even during hot, dry seasons.
In our homes, life can sometimes feel like a dry season. Schedules get heavy, tempers short, and daily routines feel taxing. But God’s peace doesn’t require us to stir up a massive storm of effort to fix everything—He promises to refresh us like the morning dew.
How God’s Refreshment Arrives
1. It is Quiet and Gentle: Dew doesn’t make a sound, yet it changes the whole atmosphere of the morning. When the Holy Spirit brings peace into a room, it often starts with a quiet word, a slow breath, or a soft answer.
2. It Falls Where It is Needed Most: Dew doesn’t pick and choose only the pristine leaves; it covers the dry, weary places equally. God’s grace is available for the messy, unfinished, and tired moments under our roof.
3. It Sustains Us for the Day: Dew provides essential moisture to survive the daily heat. Welcoming God’s presence each morning gives our family the daily grace needed to walk together in love.
Unfolding the Grace: Receiving Morning Refreshment
Rather than adding a single thing to your to-do list, consider how you can simply open your hands to receive His refreshment this week:
- A Quiet Morning Pause: Before the house wakes up or the busy day begins, take two silent minutes to ask God to let His peace fall over your heart like dew.
- Softening the Atmosphere: When a moment of tension arises, remember that dew is gentle. Respond with a soft word that cools off heat rather than fanning flames.
A Quiet Prayer
Lord, in the middle of our busy days and dry seasons, remind us that we only need to turn to You. Let Your Spirit settle over our home like the dew of Hermon. Refresh our hearts, soften our words, and revive our spirits with Your gentle peace today. Amen.
What we Learned
- Our words carry weight, good or bad, it is our choice.
- Spending time with the Lord before the day begins is where we receive our refreshment- His sweet, restoring “morning dew”.
